The 1997 edition has a fresh 78-page format that includes 38 additional illustrations. Completely new sections have been added on a number of topics, including building codes, zoning regulations, functional planning, heating and ventilation, structural wood products, design stresses, earthquake loading, critical load combinations, and engineering safety factors. The impact of diaphragm action on the design of a modern post-frame building is also introduced in this edition. Sections that have been extensively updated and expanded include wood preservative treatment, structural lumber grades, site drainage and planning, post foundation design, frost action, truss and roof bracing, wood fasteners, structural loading, construction safety, and bulk storage of commodities.
